Made with Code: Google Social Responsibility Campaign

Challenge

Coding has become the new literacy, yet the creators of this fast-growing world are predominantly male. Less than 1% of girls in high school express interest in computer sciences. Google’s goal was to spark a movement to reach millions of girls by reframing coding as a means for them to pursue their dreams – from fashion and art to health and humanitarianism.

Solution

As part of their commitment to the cause, Google allocated MILLIONS of dollars in grants to nonprofits that are supporting the ecosystem and creating more opportunities for girls to learn code such as Girls Who Code and Code.org.

FTV was challenged with securing talent to attend the launch event in NYC and to enlist A-List celebrities to push out social media posts in support of #MadeWithCode.

Outcome

Chelsea Clinton, Ashton Kutcher, Kerry Washington, Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, Molly Sims, Ireland Baldwin, and Icona Pop all supported the cause using the Made With Code Hashtag. Even President Barack Obama got in on the action, with the official White House account, tweeting out our messaging.
